What are herbal tinctures?
Herbal tinctures are stronger form of herbal medicine (versus tea) at least for conditions that need the medicine to get to the bloodstream faster. Tinctures are liquid extracts made from herbs taken orally (by mouth). They are usually extracted in alcohol, but they can also be extracted in vegetable glycerine or apple cider vinegar.
How do you use tinctures?
Tinctures are taken by placing a few drops of the tinctures directly under the tongue. The tinctures enter the bloodstream much more directly this way, usually resulting in a quicker the action in the body. Some herbs will have an immediate effect, while others, such as nutritive and building tinctures may take several weeks of continual use before best results are observed.
For certain plants tinctures are the form of herbal medicine, as some plants are not water soluble (for tea) but are alcohol soluble (for tinctures).
