Trauma-Informed Care and Herbalism

In our weekend class on Trauma-Informed Care & Herbalism, students learn why understanding trauma’s impact is necessary for herbal practice. With over 60% of adults experiencing adverse childhood experiences, nearly every client an herbalist encounters has been touched by trauma in some way.

We explore how trauma affects physical health, creating chronic conditions that clients often seek herbal support for – from digestive issues to immune dysfunction. Students learn to recognize these connections without overstepping boundaries or attempting to treat trauma directly.

The class introduces specific plant allies that support the nervous system – gentle nervines, adaptogenic herbs, and aromatic plants that create a sense of safety. We learn about glycerites, flower essence blends, and aromatic preparations that clients can incorporate into their daily healing routines.

Beyond specific remedies, students gain practical skills for creating supportive consultation spaces where clients feel empowered in their healing journey. This trauma-sensitive approach enhances the effectiveness of herbal recommendations and helps build the trust necessary for lasting client relationships.
